Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

ā€œThere's this level of irony that we keep returning to,ā€ noted Cappa. ā€œIt's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.ā€

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well help usher in that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
