Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.
He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, including the pastel suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."
His passing follows less than a month after he presented his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he started creating pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.
With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.
The fashion world mourns the loss to a authentic original whose impact on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
