Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode lives up to its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Feedback

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
