A campaign is aiming to send a cultural melody to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project aims to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it fails to, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
The song was recorded following a large-scale benefit event held in September. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the performance was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The notable list of artists appearing on Lullaby features a group of prominent voices from the scene. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of producers and composers. The track features a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The organizers behind the campaign have clarified that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These proceeds will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a spokesperson commented. “We aim for as much as possible. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of infrastructure reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions won't make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is first of all making this cause better known and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching this Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from mid-December.
