Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the party enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can expect learning which characters will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
