Former Physician Charged with Assault Charges Involving 38 Patients

Prosecutors have stated that a ex- doctor has been charged with performing sexual assaults against 38 individuals who were patients.

Details of the Grave Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – some of which involve some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

One deputy chief CPS official said, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Police Inquiry

The charges follow what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

List of Offences

Prosecutors said the forty-five sexual offences he is charged with:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
