Illegal dumpers cover countryside in enormous heap of waste

Waste criminals have dumped a huge quantity of garbage in a rural area in Oxfordshire.

The "environmental crisis unfolding in full view" is up to 150m (490ft) long and 6m (20ft) tall.

The massive heap has materialized in a plot of land alongside the River Cherwell in the vicinity of Kidlington.

A local MP brought up the situation in parliament, saying it was "posing risk of an ecological catastrophe".

An environmental charity stated the illegal rubbish dump was created around a month ago by an illegal operation.

"This is an ecological disaster taking place in full view.

"Daily that elapses raises the danger of poisonous run-off reaching the waterways, poisoning fauna and putting at risk the wellbeing of the whole catchment.

"The Environment Agency must respond promptly, not in the distant future, which is their standard reaction time."

Some of the garbage from the peak of the heap has fallen and is now only five meters from the stream.

The official petitioned the government for assistance to eliminate the illegal tip before it resulted in a blaze or was washed away into the river system.

Speaking to elected representatives on this week, he said: "Lawbreakers have dumped a huge quantity of unauthorized synthetic materials... totaling substantial weight, in my district on a water-adjacent land adjacent to the River Cherwell.

"Water heights are increasing and thermal imaging demonstrate that the waste is also warming, elevating the risk of blaze.

"The Environment Agency reported it has restricted capabilities for compliance, that the anticipated price of clearance is higher than the whole twelve-month funding of the municipal authority."

Government official said the administration had taken over a underperforming recycling sector that had created an "growing issue of illegal waste disposal".

She advised parliament members the organization had issued a prohibition notice to stop further entry to the location.
