Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.

Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and continuing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any impact is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - reported they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," it added.

The statement noted missile fragments fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
