Lindsey Vonn Assured of Being 'in a good place' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "in a good place" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, after earning a top-three finish for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup races.

The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Competing at the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place.

"I was slightly lacking the right line on the first jump," Vonn remarked. "After that, I performed strongly. I'm satisfied with my run today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill race on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Injury

Vonn officially retired in February 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in December 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She already possesses one gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"In Cortina, I will be in a good place," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has won over a career spanning two decades.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup circuit features a nine more events scheduled before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
