The direst potential impacts of the climate crisis for the UK have been mapped by researchers, including a searing 4C jump in average temperatures to a two-metre rise in sea levels. Another scenario foresees a drop of 6C in temperature following the collapse of crucial Atlantic Ocean currents, which would severely impact agriculture and power requirements.

Plausible Outcomes, Not Predictions

A second set of severe models sets out the potential extent of severe conditions between now and the end of the century. These indicate that thermometer readings could rocket in certain periods by up to 6C above the norm, while precipitation could be triple typical amounts.
